A.W. Tozer was a well-known theologian without a high school education, yet his sermons and books have touched millions around the world.
The compilation of his sermons by James L. Snyder in Alive in the Spirit is no different. Even though Tozer died in 1963, his sermons somehow still seem relevant today.
Tozer opens by sharing his own testimony of how the Holy Spirit worked in his life, even before he knew who the Holy Spirit was.
“If anyone is going to be blessed by God and used by Him, it will begin with a mighty infilling of the Holy Spirit in their life,” wrote Tozer. “From that point on, they are no longer in control, but the Holy Spirit is working in and through them.”
Tozer clearly identifies who the Holy Spirit is and warns the church of the current lack of the Spirit in their midst.
“For the evangelical church to go forward in the power and demonstration of the Holy Spirit, it needs to deal with all the baggage accumulated over the years,” warned Tozer.
Tozer then begins to build a path of restoration for the church, demonstrating how to listen for the Holy Spirit’s voice.
This book is an easy read, with each chapter ending with convicting, thought-provoking questions to ask yourself. Whether you’re a theologian or just a person wanting to understand more about the Holy Spirit, this book will be just what you need.
